What led you to study abroad? Why did you choose your country/program?

Many factors including academic opportunity and interest.

What was the most interesting cultural experience you had abroad?

Learning about the history of Islam in China and religions in general.

What was the biggest challenge/concern of your study abroad experience? How did you respond?

Food. As a picky eater, I was able to find an array of options to eat.

Describe a typical day for you abroad.

Wake up, attend classes, meet with friends or study with friends and then relax / explore during the evenings.

What coursework did you take while abroad? How did courses abroad compare with Berkeley classes?

International Finance, Elementary Chinese, Globalization and Confucianism. The courses were overall easier than courses at Berkeley.

What was the most memorable/meaningful aspect of your time abroad?

Traveling to different cities and learning about the importance/ cultural significance of each city. i.e Suzhou, Hanghzhou etc.

What impact did studying abroad have on you personally?

I learned a lot about myself through traveling alone and figuring issues out. I was able to learn a lot about Chinese culture and language as well as meet with fellow Cal Alumni throughout my semester. All in all, the self growth and development was steep.

What would you recommend to students considering studying abroad, especially to your country or program?

Don't worry too much and just enjoy every moment abroad because it will end eventually.
