Mo'orea Spring Island Sustainability: Course Credit Guide
The following is provided as a guide for courses within the Mo’orea Spring Program.
⦁ As a program participant, you are required to take all five courses during the Spring semester in Mo’orea.
⦁ All five program courses fall within the Department of Environmental Science, Policy, and Management (ESPM).
⦁ Be sure to consult with your academic advisor prior to enrollment if you have questions regarding the process for applying course credit to your major and/or breadth requirements.
⦁ Berkeley Study Abroad program staff will enroll program participants in the five courses in October.
ESPM 109A: Island and Coral Reef Resilience and Ecosystem Services (3 units)
Fulfills Biological Science breadth
ESPM 109B: Polynesian Culture and Society (3 units)
Fulfills Social & Behavioral Sciences breadth
ESPM 109C: Issues in Biodiversity (3 units)
Fulfills Biological Science breadth
ESPM 109D: Environmental Planning, Management, and Policy (3 units)
Fulfills Social & Behavioral Sciences breadth
ESPM 109E: Data Science, Communication, and Professionalism (3 units)
No breadth requirements are fulfilled through this course
* Through completion of program with a passing grade in every course, students fulfill the International Studies Breadth Requirement
Environmental Sciences Major:
ES Electives: ESPM 109A, 109B, 109C, 109D, 109E
ESPM 109B would satisfy Human-Environment Interactions requirement
Conservation and Resource Studies Major:
Program can count toward two of the CRS major Area of Interest courses
Genetics and Plant Biology Major:
ESPM 109C Issues in Biodiversity = 1 concentration elective in major
Microbial Biology Major:
ESPM 109C Issues in Biodiversity = 1 concentration elective in major
Molecular Environmental Biology Major:
Program will count for 1 Area B, up to 4 units toward any concentration, and 1 upper division lab
Society and Environment Major:
Completion of program would satisfy two Society & Environment area of concentration requirements. Check with your Academic Advisor to determine which course(s) can be applied to AOC requirements.
Earth and Planetary Science - Marine Science Major/Minor:
ESPM 109 series will count as an elective for major and minor
Geography Major:
Students are encouraged to check with their Major Advisor to seek major credit.
Integrative Biology Major:
Students are encouraged to check with their Major Advisor to seek major credit.
