The maximum is two courses. Students can request an exception for more than two courses. Contact the UG Advisor if you need an exception.

Yes. Please contact the department for advice. We help students develop specific course plans that can include study abroad.
Students should notify the Undergraduate Advisor as early as possible when selecting a study abroad program and courses. The Undergraduate Advisor works with students and UCEAP to obtain syllabi.
Yes. If studying abroad takes place during the penultimate semester, they must work on their research while abroad. Please consult with your Berkeley Study Abroad Adviser to determine whether this will be feasible on your chosen program.

N/A - we do not use courses to earn honors
Our language courses are not part of ILP as they are ancient languages. However, our courses can be used to meet campus foreign language requirements.
Either the staff undergraduate major advisor or a faculty advisor can sign the plan. It’s usually the undergraduate major advisor.
Yes. Students who are abroad can do their advising via email or Zoom and have the hold cleared before their enrollment period begins or after. They will be notified the hold has been placed by email.
We support and encourage studying abroad. If students meet campus requirements for senior residency (check with an L&S advisor to confirm), they can take their final semester abroad.
Independent Programs Questionnaire
Yes, College Year in Athens has been approved. We are willing to evaluate any program the student is interested in.
Not at this time. We are willing to approve requests for approval from students who are interested in them.
The student can submit the syllabus and a reading list to the Undergraduate Advisor. A Faculty Advisor will evaluate the courses.
