"Prior to the study abroad program, I never really appreciated how beautiful Korea was, for I never had the opportunity to explore outside of the main cities. So, when I visited Busan for the first time, it was an eye-opening cultural experience, for I got to visit the most beautiful temple in Korea, which rested on the sea cliffs of Busan."

What led you to study abroad? Why did you choose your country/program?

As a transfer student, I went to a study abroad information session, specifically for transfer students, and realized that it was never too late for me to study abroad. Even though I have visited Korea many times in the past, I've never really had the opportunity to explore around and align myself with my culture. So, I wanted to study abroad in Korea, to experience and embrace the culture.

What was the most interesting cultural experience you had abroad?

The most interesting cultural experience was when I was visiting Busan. Prior to the study abroad program, I never really appreciated how beautiful Korea was, for I never had the opportunity to explore outside of the main cities. So, when I visited Busan for the first time, it was an eye-opening cultural experience, for I got to visit the most beautiful temple in Korea, which rested on the sea cliffs of Busan.

What was the biggest challenge/concern of your study abroad experience? How did you respond?

The biggest challenge I had was when I had bronchitis towards the end of the program. However, there were many resources available to help me, along with an English-speaking international clinic on campus, which helped me recover.

Describe a typical day for you abroad.

I would wake up early in the morning to catch the bus, since I lived off-campus. After attending my two morning classes, if I didn't have anything planned on-campus, I would have the rest of the day to explore and experience Korea. Once I was home, I would do my readings and assignments, before I headed off to bed.

What coursework did you take while abroad? How did courses abroad compare with Berkeley classes?

Korean Cinema and Presentation Skills for Business. I thought these courses would be really easy, but the professors there really making you think critically and engage/participate in class.

What was the most memorable/meaningful aspect of your time abroad?

Being able to connect with people and make lifelong friends from all different backgrounds and culture, and creating unforgettable memories together.

What impact did studying abroad have on you personally?

I think it helped me grow as a person, appreciating the opportunity, along with developing more interpersonal skills, which boosted my confidence in networking and meeting new people.

What would you recommend to students considering studying abroad, especially to your country or program?

I would recommend them to download the apps, which would help them navigate through the program. Such as, Kakao, Subway, Yogiyo, Naver Maps, etc...
