The Sophomore Semester online application will open on February 15, 2018, and close on March 15, 2018 (Application deadline extended to March 19). Applications are on a first-come, first-served basis and you will be notified of your admissions status by March 19, 2018.

Before you apply

Before you apply, we recommend doing the following:

• Learn more about the Sophomore Semester program by attending an information session or set up an advising appointment by emailing sophomoresemester@berkeley.edu
• Obtain a valid passport with an expiration date beyond May 2019 and research any travel documentation you need to travel abroad.
• Speak to a financial aid advisor at 160 Stephens Hall about study abroad funding.

Application Process:

The Sophomore Semester application requires:

1.  A copy of your most recent college transcript (unofficial or official). Transcripts must have your name, the name of your college, courses in progress, and current GPA.
2. A 150-250 word (per question) statement of interest that answers the following: Question 1) What aspects of this program - culture, courses, personal development, other program opportunities - led you to choose this option? Question 2) Please tell us about a facet of your personality that you believe will help you adjust to studying and living abroad.
3. A 200-500 word internship essay answering the following a) What do you hope to gain through your internship experience and how does this fit into your academic plans, future education, and/or career goals? b) What type of internship are you looking for? (Please do not request a specific employer, but rather indicate the kind of work you think would suit your needs and the type of skills you would like to gain).
4. A copy of your resume and cover letter formatted specifically to the U.K. See resume instructions and templates here for more information.
5. A signed Student Agreement
6. A signed student Waiver of Liability

After You Apply

Admitted Students: If you are admitted into your program, you will receive a welcome packet by no later than March 19, 2018. All confirmation documents must be submitted to the Berkeley Study Abroad portal by 5 pm PST on April 6, 2018.

Waitlisted Students: If you are placed on the waitlist, you will be notified via email to do one of the following:

• Remain on the waitlist - no further action required.
• Withdraw your application from the waitlist.

Withdrawing Your Application

If you choose to withdraw your application before March 19, 2018, you must speak to your program advisor and submit a Program Enrollment Change Form.

Canceling Your Participation

To withdraw your participation, please complete and submit a Program Enrollment Change Form by no later than 5 p.m. PST on May 11, 2018.

Writing an email or talking to a program staff is not considered an official request. Additionally, incomplete or missing confirmation forms do not qualify as an official cancellation.
