Amsterdam is the capital and largest city of the Netherlands, a parliamentary democratic constitutional monarchy in northwestern Europe that borders the North Sea to the north and west, Belgium to the south, and Germany to the east. Located in the province of North Holland in the west of the country. Amsterdam has a cool oceanic climate, strongly influenced by its proximity to the North Sea to the west, with prevailing northwestern winds and gales.
Brussels is the de facto capital city of the European Union and the largest urban area in Belgium. Brussels' proximity to coastal areas influences the area's climate by sending marine air masses from the Atlantic Ocean. Nearby wetlands also ensure a maritime temperate climate.
