The Republic of Singapore is an urban Southeast Asian island country and city-state, located on a series of islands at the end of the Malay Peninsula. It is considered one of the Four Asian Tigers, and has been a center for international trade and a gateway to Asia for centuries. Today, Singapore hosts the headquarters of many multinational corporations, making it an exceptionally diverse business community which embraces a wide variety of industries, including trade, tourism, finance, oil refining, foreign exchange, and investment.
Some 5 million people live in Singapore, most of whom are of Chinese, Malay, or Indian descent. Singapore combines an ultra-modern skyline with the rich cultures of its past. The city's excellent public transportation system makes it easy to explore Singapore's exciting blend of cultures and cuisines.
The host institution for this program is the National University of Singapore (NUS). NUS is Singapore's oldest university and is consistently ranked among the world's top universities. You will have access to many campus services and the IAS 196 course will be taught on the campus by NUS faculty.
Housing and Meals
You will live in student housing at the National University of Singapore’s main Kent Ridge campus. Housing includes a single air-conditioned room with a shared kitchen, living area, bathroom, and access to laundry facilities. Students will not be provided with meals, but will have access to a fully equipped kitchen.

A comprehensive orientation will be provided both on the UC Berkeley campus as well as on-site. Orientation will cover various topics, including academics, internship and local culture, health and safety, transportation, and more.
