As a freshman, you have the most options available for study abroad during your undergraduate career.
With proper planning, you can maximize your study abroad opportunities while at UC Berkeley.
- Study abroad as early as the summer after your first year at UC Berkeley. Many programs allow students with sophomore standing (30 or more units, not including AP or transfer units) or junior standing (60 or more units, including AP and transfer units) to study abroad.
- Study abroad multiple times. With summer, semester, and year options, you may be able to study abroad more than once during your time at Cal-review your academic plans and be sure to consult with your college. The current Cal record is a student who studied abroad on five different programs!
- Decide whether to complete breadth requirements abroad. You may be able to satisfy breadth requirements during your study abroad experience. Review eligibility information for your college to see which breadth requirements may be satisfied with coursework abroad.
- Complete study abroad course prerequisites. If you are interested in participating on a program that requires a language or course prerequisite, arrange your course schedule now in order to satisfy requirements by the time you study abroad.
