1. Is there a specific time frame in which students are required to declare a major in your department? If yes, when?

NO. PHYSICS/PHYSICAL SCIENCES FIELD MAJORS CAN DECLARE ANYTIME.

2. Does the Undergraduate Adviser (staff) sign the Education Abroad Program academic planning form, or must a faculty adviser (professor) sign?

EITHER. IF THEY ARE OFFICIALLY DECLARED, THEIR FACULTY ADVISOR SIGNS, UNLESS UNAVAILABLE (IF UNAVAILABLE, STAFF ADVISOR MAY SIGN). IF THEY ARE INTENDED, STAFF ADVISOR SIGNS.

3. Should we advise students to make an appointment to have their academic planning form signed in your department? If so, do they need to bring a transcript or any other supplemental materials with them to their appointment?

YES PLEASE. STUDENT SHOULD BRING A TRANSCRIPT (NEED NOT BE OFFICIAL) AND A DRAFT OF THEIR INTENDED REMAINING ACADEMIC PROGRAM PLAN.

4. What is the maximum amount of major credit given for courses taken during the education abroad program? Is this maximum calculated by number of courses or by units of credit? Please explain.

THERE IS NO SET AMOUNT. IN THE PAST, STUDENTS HAVE COMPLETED UP TO FOUR COURSES ABROAD (IN ONE YEAR). COURSE CREDIT IS GIVEN BASED ON SUBJECT CONTENT. IF A STUDENT COMPLETED MOST OF THE EQUIVALENT TO ONE OF OUR COURSES, WE WILL ASK THE STUDENT TO COMPLETE THE REMAINING VIA INDEPENDENT SUPERVISED STUDY (FACULTY MUST SPONSOR). IF THE STUDENT IS MISSING HALF OF THE COURSE OR MORE, WE WILL RECOMMEND THAT (S)HE COMPLETE OUR COURSE. ADVISE AND CREDIT IS GIVEN ON A CASE BY CASE BASIS.

5. Are students in your department able to undertake senior honors theses the semester following EAP participation or are there restrictions? Please explain.

YES, AS LONG AS THEY HAVE EITHER COMPLETED ONE SEMESTER OF H190 PRIOR TO DEPARTURE OR AS LONG AS THEY ARE RETURNING TO COMPLETE THEIR SENIOR THESIS HERE DURING A SPRING SEMESTER (H190 IS NOT OFFERED IN THE FALL AND IS REQUIRED FOR THE HONORS).

6. Does your department calculate EAP grades into the departmental GPA?

NO.

7. Are EAP grades counted towards departmental honors?

NO.

N/A

9. Does your department distribute a special information sheet for your majors which includes advice on how to articulate participation with EAP with the major?

EAP STUDY OPTION IS MENTIONED IN OUR UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAM LITERATURE.

10. If yes, do you also provide this information on your departmental website? What is the URL?

N/A

11. Finally, most EAP students are required to officially declare their major before departure. Returning EAP students who attempt to register through Tele-BEARS from abroad need adviser codes to pre-enroll for courses. What is your departmental policy on releasing advisor codes (AC's) to EAP students?

WE WILL WORK WITH THEM OVER EMAIL/FAX TO INSURE THEY ARE ABLE TO REGISTER AND ENROLL IN APPROPRIATE COURSES.
