1. Is there a specific time frame in which students are required to declare a major in your department? If yes, when?

WE ENCOURAGE STUDENTS TO DECLARE AS SOON AS THEY HAVE FINISHED THEIR LOWER DIVISION PREREQUISITE COURSES. APPLICATIONS ARE ACCEPTED ONLY WHILE REGULAR CLASSES ARE IN SESSION. (EXCEPTIONS IN SUMMER FOR EAP ARE CONSIDERED.)

2. Does the Undergraduate Adviser (staff) sign the Education Abroad Program academic planning form, or must a faculty adviser (professor) sign?

STAFF ADVISORS SIGN THE EAP FORMS, BUT FACULTY REVIEW ACCEPTABLE COURSES UPON RETURN.

3. Should we advise students to make an appointment to have their academic planning form signed in your department? If so, do they need to bring a transcript or any other supplemental materials with them to their appointment?

INTENDED MAJORS SHOULD BRING A TRANSCRIPT. WE WILL HAVE A MAJOR FILE SET UP IF THEY HAVE ALREADY DECLARED.

4. What is the maximum amount of major credit given for courses taken during the education abroad program? Is this maximum calculated by number of courses or by units of credit? Please explain.

WE ALLOW UP TO FOUR UPPER DIVISION COURSES FROM ANOTHER UNIVERSITY IF APPROPRIATE TO THE REQUIREMENTS. (I.E. REQUIRED COURSE EQUIVALENCY OR ELECTIVE).

5. Are students in your department able to undertake senior honors theses the semester following EAP participation or are there restrictions? Please explain.

STUDENTS CAN DO HONORS THESIS FOLLOWING EAP

6. Does your department calculate EAP grades into the departmental GPA?

YES, IF THE COURSE IS USED FOR A MAJOR REQUIREMENT.

7. Are EAP grades counted towards departmental honors?

YES, IF COUNTED AS ONE OF 8 REQUIRED UPPER DIVISION COURSES.

8. If you represent a department which teaches foreign language, does your department award major credit for the courses taken during the Intensive Language Program (ILP) portion of the EAP program? If so, please explain.

N/A

9. Does your department distribute a special information sheet for your majors which includes advice on how to articulate participation with EAP with the major?

NO

10. If yes, do you also provide this information on your departmental website? What is the URL?

N/A

11. Finally, most EAP students are required to officially declare their major before departure. Returning EAP students who attempt to register through Tele-BEARS from abroad need adviser codes to pre-enroll for courses. What is your departmental policy on releasing advisor codes (AC's) to EAP students?

STUDENTS SHOULD MEET WITH THEIR FACULTY ADVISORS BEFORE LEAVING AND HAVE A SIGNED TENTATIVE PLAN IN THEIR MAJOR FILE. THEY ARE ENCOURAGED TO STAY IN TOUCH WITH US AND THEIR FACULTY ADVISORS BY E-MAIL. THEY MUST PROVIDE A WRITTEN SIGNED AUTHORIZATION FORM FOR RELEASE OF A CODE EITHER BY E-MAIL OR TO A FRIEND FOR CLASS ENROLLMENT THROUGH TELEBEARS.
