Financial Aid and Scholarships for EAP

EAP is affordable. Over half of EAP's countries have options that cost less than or equal to a semester or year at Berkeley - and that includes airfare! Participants pay the usual UC fees. Factors that make the year abroad in some countries more expensive than a year at Berkeley are: round-trip transportation, higher cost of living, the length of the program (some are for 12 months instead of 9), and the exchange rate between the dollar and foreign currency.

All UC financial aid is applicable to the year on EAP except work-study, which is converted to a loan. The Financial Aid Office increases your aid package if the EAP budget for your country is higher than it is at Berkeley.

Need-based EAP scholarships are awarded from $1,000 to $2,000 (based on financial need of student and availability of funding). There is a service requirement for recipients of EAP scholarships. The service requirement can be fulfilled by participating in at least one outreach activity upon your return to campus. Scholarship recipients who graduate after EAP, and are not able to participate in one of our activites, can opt to write a report on their experience abroad that can be shared with future students.

American Airlines Global Leaders Travel Scholarship (GLTS)

American Airlines has selected UC Berkeley as one of a handful of universities to sponsor a GLTS. The winner of this prestigious scholarship will be awarded a round trip ticket to any study abroad destination served directly by American Airlines. There will be two competition cycles per year: Fall and Spring.
