Staff Advisors (major advisors) in 420 Latimer Hall are responsible for clearing students for participation at the time the Academic Planning Form is signed.  Find out who your staff advisor is before leaving; get their e-mail address to correspond with them while abroad, if necessary.

College of Engineering

Bob Giomi, Asst. Dean of Student Affairs

(510) 642-7594

Fax:  (510) 643-8653

giomi@coe.berkeley.edu

Requirements:  Access the guidelines at:  http://www.coe.berkeley.edu/students/current-undergraduates/advising/education-abroad-program.html.  For approval, schedule a meeting with a staff adviser in the College of Engineering, 308 McLauglin Hall, then meet with the Associate Dean of Engineering who will approve your participation.  Students have either 8 semesters or 4 semesters (transfer students) in the COE, including EAP.  It is possible to petition the Dean of the College for one additional semester.

College of Environmental Design

John Flores, UG Student Affairs Manager

Requirements:  Fill out the Study Abroad Request/Approval Form and submit it to the CED Undergraduate Office.

Students must complete Reading & Composition 1A-1B prior to EAP participation.  There is no declaration of major requirement because all students in the College of Environmental Design are majors.  Students in other colleges intending to declare a CED major are not guaranteed satisfaction of any course requirements if they study abroad before being admitted to the majors. Residency requirements are very similar to the L&S rules:  “Satisfy senior residence, either by completing regular senior residence (two semesters and 24 units completed after 90 units earned) or, by satisfying the modified senior residence for EAP participants (24 units after completion of 60 units in residence.  At least 12 of these units must be completed after you reach 90 units).

CED majors are expected to submit the Study Abroad Request/Approval Form as a means of determining which courses can be applied toward College and major requirements.  Two or possibly three courses may be approved toward upper division major and college requirements.  Students may seek approval for the satisfaction of some breadth courses through this same process.  Approval must be sought before departure.

CED students should not exceed a unit ceiling of either 130 units or 8 regular term semesters (freshmen admits) or 4 regular term semesters (transfer admits) at graduation, including units/terms earned on EAP, whether the EAP units count for requirements or are excess units.
